This program provides monthly cash benefits to qualified survivors of workers who were covered under Social Security and have passed away. It also includes a one-time payment of $255 to the surviving spouse.
Application Process: For assistance, individuals can call or visit a local Social Security office. If the eligible surviving spouse or child is not already receiving benefits, they must submit an application for this payment within two years from the date of the worker's death.
Cost: There are no fees associated with this program.

- Eligible recipients include widows or widowers aged 60 or older (or 50 if disabled), any age caring for a child of the deceased under 16 or disabled, unmarried children under 18 (or up to 19 if full-time students), individuals over 18 with disabilities that began before age 22, certain stepchildren, grandchildren, and dependent parents aged 62 or older.
