• Under the McKinney-Vento Act, students or families facing homelessness—such as those living in shelters, vehicles, or temporarily with others—may be entitled to specific rights and protections. Eligible students can receive a free public education, enroll immediately in school without required documents, and may continue at their school of origin if preferred. If a school district deems a chosen school not in the student's best interest, they must provide a written explanation and inform the student of their right to appeal. Additionally, students can request transportation to their school of origin and receive educational services tailored to their needs.
