This voluntary initiative connects veteran defendants with public mental health treatment services, utilizing a collaborative model that involves the veteran and features tailored treatment plans along with continuous monitoring.

Intake Procedure: For felony charges or cases pending in a King County municipal court, the assigned Prosecutor must initiate the referral. In cases of misdemeanors prosecuted by the King County Prosecutor’s Office, referrals can be made by anyone, including defense attorneys. Referrals can occur at any point in the legal process, from pre-filing to post-sentencing. Typically, referrals are made during court when the veteran's status and qualifying diagnosis are recognized, prompting the judge to schedule a courtesy hearing.
