This program offers monthly financial assistance to qualifying survivors of deceased workers covered by Social Security, along with a one-time payment of $255 to the surviving spouse.
Intake Procedure: For help, you can either call or visit a nearby Social Security office. If the surviving spouse or child is not currently receiving benefits, they must submit an application for this payment within two years following the worker's death.
Fees: There are no fees associated with this program.

- Eligible recipients include widows or widowers aged 60 or older (or 50 if disabled), any age caring for a child of the deceased under 16 or disabled, unmarried children under 18 (or up to 19 if full-time students), disabled individuals over 18 with disabilities starting before age 22, certain stepchildren, grandchildren, and parents over 62 who relied on the deceased for at least half of their support. The one-time payment is available to spouses living in the same household, or to those who were apart but receiving benefits or became eligible upon the worker's death.
