- Applicants must generally be at least 16 years old, but typically need to be 18 for apprenticeships in hazardous fields. Additional qualifications may be set by program sponsors, including educational requirements, physical capability to perform job tasks, and age verification. Depending on the sponsor's selection criteria, further standards such as aptitude tests, interviews, academic performance, and prior work experience may also be considered.
