About this resource

The Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO) provides insights into fair housing laws and documents consumer complaints related to unfair treatment or discrimination in housing based on factors such as race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, familial status (including the presence of children), sexual orientation, gender identity, and marital status. The Public and Indian Housing (PIH) Resource Center assists with inquiries or grievances regarding HUD rental programs, including Housing Choice (Section 8) Vouchers. The Multifamily Housing Complaint Line allows residents of HUD-insured and assisted properties, as well as community members, to voice complaints about property management issues like poor maintenance, health and safety hazards, mismanagement, and fraud. The HUD Inspector General Hotline accepts reports of fraud, waste, abuse, or severe mismanagement in HUD or HUD-funded programs from HUD employees, contractors, and the general public. Additionally, Manufactured Housing Complaints address issues with manufactured or mobile homes that have not been resolved through complaints to the selling business or the manufacturer. Complaints regarding deceptive contractors involved in renovations through Title 1 or 203(k) programs can also be reported.
