The Public Health Preparedness office (Bioterrorism Planning) collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, other public health districts, healthcare providers, and emergency responders to develop a unified statewide strategy for readiness and response to bioterrorism threats and other public health crises. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH: Programs in Environmental Health address the intersection of human health with the physical environment and the ecosystem. **Environmental Health Programs include: Day Care; Epidemiology (Animal Bites, Food and Water Borne Illness); Food Establishments (Permits, Plan Reviews, Inspections); Public Pools.**Land Development Programs cover: Mortgage Surveys; Public Water Systems; Subdivision Review; Subsurface Sewage (Site Evaluations, Permits, Inspections).REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH (Family Planning): Offers Family Planning services such as education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams (including cancer screening, sexually transmitted disease testing, and HIV testing), and referrals. A variety of birth control methods are available. Educational resources and speakers can be arranged for community presentations upon request. Applications for temporary Medicaid cards for prenatal care can be obtained. IMMUNIZATIONS: Local health departments administer routine childhood vaccinations through clinics at the health department, often at little or no cost for those unable to pay. Appointments can be scheduled by contacting the local health department, which will also bill your insurance. The Immunization Registry is a complimentary, voluntary, and confidential service that helps you and your doctor track immunizations and ensure you receive only the necessary vaccines when needed; remember to bring your immunization records to every appointment. WIC (WOMEN, INFANTS AND CHILDREN) PROGRAM: WIC provides supplemental nutrition assistance for Women, Infants, and Children, offering: Monthly healthy food packages redeemable with WIC vouchers, health screenings, nutrition education classes, community program information, referrals to healthcare providers, individual counseling with registered dietitians, breastfeeding support, recipes, newsletters, and educational materials. WOMEN'S HEALTH CHECK contractor: This federally funded initiative provides free breast and cervical cancer screenings for eligible women without insurance coverage for mammograms or pap tests, who meet income criteria, are U.S. citizens or possess an Alien ID card, and fall into one of the following categories: Ages 50-64; Ages 40-49 without a pap test in 5 years or longer, or never tested (priority given); ages 30-49 with breast cancer symptoms (clinician approval required); ages 30-39 with cervical cancer symptoms confirmed by a healthcare provider; or age 65 and older without Medicare eligibility or lacking Medicare part B.
