Each district has a health board appointed by county commissioners and operates independently of any state agency. They cater to local needs by offering a diverse range of services, which can differ from one district to another. Available services include community health nursing, home health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs, many of which are provided through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. For the most current information about local services, reach out to your nearest District Health Department. The Public Health Preparedness and Communication Systems office (Bioterrorism Planning) collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, other public health districts, healthcare providers, and emergency responders to develop a unified state plan for preparing and responding to bioterrorism and other public health crises.
