Each district is governed by a board of health appointed by county commissioners and operates independently of state agencies. They address local requirements and offer a range of services that differ by district, including community health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs. Many of these services are delivered through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. For the most current information about local services, reach out to your nearest District Health Department. The Public Health Preparedness and Communication Systems office (Bioterrorism Planning) collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, other public health districts, healthcare providers, and emergency responders to create a unified statewide strategy for preparing for and responding to bioterrorism and other public health crises.
