These services include community health nursing, home health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs, with many being delivered through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. The Public Health Preparedness and Communication Systems office collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, other public health districts, healthcare providers, and emergency responders to create a unified statewide strategy for responding to bioterrorism threats and other public health crises. FAMILY PLANNING: This program offers family planning services such as education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams (including cancer and STD screenings), and referrals. Various birth control methods are available, along with educational resources and speakers for community events upon request. IMMUNIZATIONS: Local health departments administer routine childhood vaccinations through clinics at the health department or special off-site events. These vaccinations are often low-cost or free for parents in need. Overseas immunizations are available by appointment. Adult vaccines, including Td boosters, hepatitis B, hepatitis A, pneumonia, and influenza, may also be accessible. WIC (WOMEN, INFANTS AND CHILDREN) PROGRAM: WIC is a supplemental nutrition initiative providing healthy foods each month via WIC vouchers, health screenings, nutrition classes, community program information, and referrals to healthcare providers.
