Emergency Benefits are accessible for those eligible for HEAP facing energy-related crises, like power shutoffs or having insufficient fuel supplies. Households applying must pass a resource assessment. The benefit amounts can vary. Additionally, Heating Equipment Repair or Replacement Benefits are available to fix or replace essential heating systems to ensure the primary heating source remains functional. Cooling Assistance Benefits can be provided for the purchase and installation of air conditioners or fans to maintain a cool environment, requiring individuals to have received a regular benefit exceeding $21 and to have a medical condition worsened by heat. Clean and Tune Benefits are offered to service the primary heating system, which may also cover chimney cleaning, minor repairs, and the installation of safety devices like carbon monoxide detectors or programmable thermostats to ensure the heating system operates safely and efficiently. The amount of these benefits is based on the actual costs incurred for cleaning and servicing, capped at $400.
