Nassau County Office Of Community Development

This program offers support to individuals who are homeless or at immediate risk of becoming homeless. The office is open to calls from individuals, case managers, community advocates, and service providers seeking information about housing and referrals in Nassau County. There are specific housing situations, such as for seniors, individuals with disabilities, assisted living, nursing homes, and mental health needs, each requiring its own application process. The office can also connect families to additional programs that help with rental arrears. The Homeless Prevention team is actively building partnerships with various agencies throughout the County to streamline applications and ensure residents are referred only to suitable programs. It's important to note that the Nassau County Department of Social Services (DSS) should be the first point of contact for rental arrears assistance. The Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) requires a denial from DSS, as do the non-profits that manage the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) funds, which can also aid with rental arrears. Additionally, access to the Nassau County Emergency Shelter System is only available through an application to the Nassau County Department of Social Services, located at 60 Charles Lindbergh Boulevard, Uniondale NY 11530. Appointments are necessary to meet with the Homeless Prevention Office, as they do not accept walk-in inquiries. Nassau County residents facing eviction with 72-hour notices should call the ESG 72-Hour Eviction Notice Line at (516) 571-0090, while other inquiries can be directed to the ESG Homeless Prevention line at (516) 572-2330.
