This initiative offers vital assistance to military service members and their families who encounter unexpected financial strains due to deployment or other hardships linked to military service. Support includes help with rent, utilities, and food.
Intake Procedure: To apply, download the application from the website and send it via email to unmetneeds@vfw.org, mail, or fax. After the VFW receives the completed application, a representative may reach out to discuss the case details or request further information. This communication does not guarantee application approval. The typical approval timeframe is around 20 business days.
Fees: There are no fees associated with this service.

- Applicants must be active duty or have been honorably discharged from active duty orders (excluding basic training, AIT, drill, or annual training) within the last 36 months. Financial hardship must stem from deployment, military pay issues, military-related illness or injury, or natural disasters, and cannot be due to civil or legal problems, misconduct, spousal separation or divorce, financial mismanagement, or bankruptcy.
