Adult Basic Education - State Office

In Idaho, Regional ABE (Adult Basic Education) providers are mandated to offer a complete spectrum of instruction ranging from Beginning Literacy to the high school equivalency level, specifically designed to equip learners for advanced education or job opportunities. Instruction in Basic Literacy and Beginning ABE emphasizes essential skills in reading, writing, math, and speaking. Intermediate ABE courses cover similar areas, enhancing skills in reading, writing, math, speaking, and information access. Participants at the Adult Secondary Level typically pursue a fast track to GED completion and/or seek entry into additional training, education, or employment. Workplace literacy programs tailored to specific industries or businesses are also provided at job sites. The Adult Basic Education program is accessible to anyone aged 16 or older who is not currently enrolled in high school and possesses skills below the high school level, all at no cost. Eligible activities encompass instruction in reading, writing, math, and English as a Second Language (ESL), focusing on skills below high school completion levels. Many adults engage in these programs to obtain a GED, enhance job-related skills, or refresh their abilities for further training or educational pursuits. Available languages include English and Spanish.
