MEDICAL RESERVE CORPS PHONE # 208-321-2215 Swine Flu Hotline for Region 4 - 208-321-2222 DISTRICT OFFICE: The seven health districts in Idaho work closely with the Department of Health and Welfare as well as several other state and local organizations. Each district is governed by a board of health appointed by county commissioners and operates independently from state agencies. They cater to local requirements by offering a diverse range of services, which can differ from one district to another. Services include community and home health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs, many of which are provided through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. For the latest information about available services in your area, reach out to the nearest District Health Department. The Public Health Preparedness office collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, other public health districts, healthcare providers, and emergency responders to develop a unified statewide strategy for preparing and responding to bioterrorism threats and other public health emergencies. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH: This encompasses programs addressing the intersection of human health with the physical environment and local ecosystems. **Environmental Health Programs include: Day Care; Epidemiology (Animal Bites, Food and Waterborne Illness); Food Establishments (Permits, Plan Reviews, Inspections); Public Pools.** Land Development Programs include: Mortgage Surveys; Public Water Systems; Subdivision Review; Subsurface Sewage (Site Evaluations, Permits, Inspections). Applications for temporary Medicaid cards for prenatal care can also be obtained. IMMUNIZATIONS: Local health departments provide routine childhood vaccinations through clinics at the health department, often at low or no cost for those unable to pay. Parents should contact the local health department to make appointments, and the department will bill insurance companies. Always bring immunization records to appointments.
