About this resource

The Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program is designed to ensure that young people in Idaho have access to reliable information, services, and supportive connections that empower them to make informed decisions regarding their sexual health and engage meaningfully in their communities. This program promotes evidence-based educational materials that cover topics such as delaying sexual activity, contraception access, fostering healthy relationships, enhancing parent-child communication, and developing negotiation skills to provide teens with necessary insights. Collaborating with Health Departments, the Idaho Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence, and Centro de Communidad, the program aims to create a supportive environment. Additionally, the Sexual Violence Prevention Program seeks to diminish sexual violence across the state through primary prevention initiatives that raise awareness and shift societal attitudes and behaviors. It partners with various state and community organizations to cultivate leadership aimed at eradicating sexual violence. The Fit and Fall Prevention initiative is an exercise-based program targeting older adults in Idaho, emphasizing functional exercises to lower fall risks. Local volunteers are trained to lead classes in community settings such as senior centers, libraries, and churches. For further details, individuals can reach out to Katie Lamansky at lamanskk@dhw.idaho.gov. The Idaho Diabetes Prevention and Control Program collaborates with the Diabetes Alliance of Idaho and other healthcare and public health partners to enhance awareness of prediabetes, improve diabetes care quality, and promote diabetes prevention and self-management education statewide. For inquiries, contact Nicole Runner at runner@dhw.idaho.gov. Project Filter serves as Idaho's tobacco prevention and control initiative, aiming to deter youth from tobacco use, reduce consumption among both youths and adults, and eliminate secondhand smoke exposure. The program offers complimentary cessation counseling and nicotine replacement therapy via the Idaho Quitline (1-800-Quit Now or www.quitnow.net/Idaho), with services available in English and Spanish interpreters accessible.
