The Council offers direct support and engages in both public and private sector initiatives related to individuals with hearing impairments. Its mission is to enhance the quality of life for Idaho residents who are deaf or hard of hearing by providing services such as newsletters, brochures, communication access workshops, advocacy, information and referral services, and assistive device demonstrations. Additionally, the Council coordinates efforts to improve service accessibility provided by other organizations. It acts as a resource for state agencies to address the needs of those with hearing impairments. The Council operates demonstration and loan centers for assistive devices across Idaho, with seven locations in Moscow, Boise, Twin Falls, Idaho State University, Caldwell, Coeur D'Alene, and Idaho Falls. A small grant program, managed by United Cerebral Palsy, assists individuals in acquiring assistive devices, with applications available at the demonstration centers. The Council also provides various brochures detailing the ADA Act's requirements for reasonable accommodations and communication access, a statewide directory of sign language and oral interpreters, and resources for parents of children with hearing loss, including a quarterly newsletter.
