Head Start (Boise) Kindall Center

Head Start is a comprehensive preschool initiative available nationwide for children from families that qualify based on income. Local nonprofit organizations operate Head Start centers across the country, accepting applications for children aged 0 to 5 years. It primarily serves families whose income falls below poverty guidelines, including those with special needs or at high risk. A limited number of over-income children with special needs may also be accepted. The program provides free services addressing medical, dental, educational, and social service needs. Enrollment requires verification of income, the child’s birthdate, and immunization records. Supportive services offered include social services, parent involvement, nutrition, mental health, health/dental care, education, and assistance for disabilities, along with transportation. Head Start aims to enrich the lives of children, families, staff, and the community while helping families navigate life’s challenges through quality education and family-centered services. The program operates four days a week, totaling 16 hours, and provides two meals each day for the children. Parents are encouraged to volunteer, and positive parenting classes are available to assist families in educational matters. Services are offered in English, Spanish, and other languages.
