Idaho Commission On Aging

About this resource
The Idaho Commission on Aging (ICOA) is committed to assisting Idaho's seniors and individuals with disabilities by protecting their rights, encouraging self-sufficiency, providing counseling, and advocating for their needs. It facilitates access to a wide range of long-term care and support services, both private and public, through 'Single Access Points' managed by the Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRCs). Under the Older Americans Act (OAA), the state is empowered to appoint a State Unit on Aging (SUA) to oversee federal programs in Idaho. As the SUA, ICOA is responsible for developing and managing budgets and programs, suggesting statutory changes and administrative regulations, and creating the necessary State Plan to meet the needs of older Idahoans, individuals with disabilities, and their caregivers. The Governor designated the ICOA as the SUA in accordance with the Older Americans Act of 1965, as amended, Section 305. The ICOA operates as an independent Commission directly accountable to the Governor's office and ensures compliance with state and federally funded programs under both the Older Americans Act and the State Senior Services Act.
