Jail - Bannock County

The Detention Division is comprised of 56 deputies and was established with a new jail in 1955, initially designed for 72 inmates. After nearly 40 years of operation, the need for a larger facility arose, leading to the construction of a contemporary building in 1994 that can hold 253 inmates. This facility includes a medical infirmary offering essential medical and dental care to inmates. Additionally, the division has created a specialized unit known as the SCILD (Sheriff/Commissioners Inmate Labor Detail) Team, which consists of low-risk inmates engaged in community service projects instead of serving their time in cells. This initiative not only frees up space for those with more serious offenses but also benefits the community through various cleanup and service efforts. The SCILD Team is supervised by three deputies. Furthermore, the DART (Detention Automatic Response Team) is part of the division, consisting of highly trained officers responsible for conducting cell extractions and searches for contraband and weapons, making our office the first in the state to implement such a program.
