Public mental health services are divided into two main categories: Community Crisis Response and Services for Adults with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) or children with significant emotional disturbances. COMMUNITY CRISIS RESPONSE SERVICES provide immediate intervention for adults in mental health crises, which may include psychiatric symptoms like self-harm or threats to others. Each Welfare region in Idaho has a community health center, along with one or more satellite offices, that offer 24-hour crisis response services including hotlines, emergency psychiatric evaluations, treatment referrals, and consultations with law enforcement and local hospitals as needed. SEVERE AND PERSISTENT MENTAL ILLNESS services are aimed at individuals aged 18 and older diagnosed with severe mental disorders such as schizophrenia, schizo-affective disorder, major affective disorder, delusional disorder, or borderline personality disorder. These conditions must significantly impair functioning in at least two areas of life, either continuously or intermittently. Services for SPMI include screening and referral, assertive community treatment, crisis intervention, case management, psychiatric and medical services, short-term outpatient therapy, individual and group psychosocial rehabilitation, consultation, education, and community supportive employment. The Mental Health Program is managed by the Division of Behavioral Health. Services are available in English, with interpreters accessible upon request.
