About this resource

The Medical Reserve Corps can be contacted at 208-239-5208, and the Swine Flu Hotline for Region 6 is available at 208-234-5888. Idaho consists of seven health districts that work closely with the Department of Health and Welfare, along with other state and local entities. Each district has a health board appointed by county commissioners and operates independently of state agencies. Services offered can differ between districts, including community health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs, many of which are delivered through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. For updated information on local services, reach out to the nearest District Health Department. The Public Health Preparedness and Communication Systems office collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and other public health districts to develop a unified statewide strategy for responding to bioterrorism and public health emergencies. Environmental Health programs address the connections between human health and the environment, covering areas like daycare, epidemiology, food establishment inspections, indoor air quality, public pools, and solid waste management. Land Development programs focus on mortgage surveys, wastewater management, public water systems, and sewage evaluations. Family Planning services include education, counseling, pregnancy tests, and various birth control methods. Immunizations are provided for children and adults, with many vaccinations available at low or no cost. The Immunization Registry helps track vaccination history. The WIC program offers nutrition support to women, infants, and children, including healthy food vouchers, health screenings, and education. The Women's Health Check program provides free cancer screenings for eligible women without insurance coverage for these services. For general inquiries, locations, and appointments, please call.
