The Idaho health districts, which are independent from any state agency, collaborate closely with the Department of Health and Welfare and various local and state organizations. Each district has a board of health appointed by county commissioners and addresses local health needs by providing diverse services that can differ from one district to another. These services include community health nursing, home health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs, many of which are delivered through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. Adult vaccines such as Td boosters, hepatitis B, hepatitis A, pneumonia, and influenza may also be provided. The Immunization Registry is a free, confidential service that helps individuals track their vaccination history. The WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) program provides nutritious food vouchers, health screenings, nutrition education, and referrals to healthcare providers for pregnant women, breastfeeding women, infants, and children under five. The Women's Health Check program offers free breast and cervical cancer screenings for eligible women without insurance coverage for these tests, targeting specific age groups and criteria.
