Head Start (Blackfoot)

Head Start is a national preschool initiative aimed at children from families that meet income eligibility requirements. Local nonprofit organizations operate Head Start centers across the country. The program accepts applications for children aged 3 to 5 years. It primarily serves families whose income falls below poverty thresholds, including those with special needs or at high risk. A limited number of over-income children with special needs may also be admitted. The program offers assistance with medical, dental, educational, and social service needs at no cost. Required documentation includes income verification, the child's birth certificate, and immunization records. Head Start provides various supportive services, such as social services, parent involvement, nutrition, mental health, health education, disability support, and dental care. The program aims to enhance the lives of children, families, staff, and the community, assisting families with challenges through quality education and family-centered services. Head Start serves low-income children aged 3-5 years with a four-day program lasting 3.5 hours each day, during which two meals are provided. Parents are encouraged to volunteer, and the program also offers positive parenting classes to support educational needs.
