Each district is governed by a health board appointed by county commissioners and operates independently of any state agency. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH: Environmental Health initiatives address the intersection of human health with the physical environment and the surrounding ecosystem. **Environmental Health Programs encompass: Day Care; Epidemiology (Animal Bites, Food and Waterborne Illness); Food Establishments (Permits, Plan Reviews, Inspections); Indoor Air Quality (Radon); Lead Health Program; Methamphetamine Labs; Public Pools; Solid Waste.** Land Development programs include: Mortgage Surveys; Non-Domestic Waste Water; Public Water Systems; Subdivision Review; Subsurface Sewage (Site Evaluations, Plan Reviews, Permits, Inspections). FAMILY PLANNING: Offers Family Planning services such as education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams (including cancer screenings, STD screenings, and HIV testing), and referrals. A variety of birth control methods are available. Educational materials can be requested. IMMUNIZATIONS: Local health districts administer routine childhood vaccinations through clinics at the health district or occasionally at special off-site locations. These vaccinations are often low-cost or free for parents who cannot afford them. Overseas immunizations are available by appointment. Contact the local health district to determine the specific vaccines required for travel destinations. Travelers receiving vaccines from the health district are responsible for the cost of the vaccine. Adult vaccines such as Td boosters, hepatitis B, hepatitis A, pneumonia, and influenza may also be provided. The Immunization Registry is a free, voluntary, and confidential service that keeps track of immunizations for you and your family, ensuring you receive only the necessary vaccines when needed.
