About this resource
The MEDICAL RESERVE CORPS can be reached at 208-321-2215, and the Swine Flu Hotline for Region 4 is available at 208-321-2222. Idaho's seven health districts function in close partnership with the Department of Health and Welfare and various state and local organizations. Each district has a health board appointed by county commissioners and operates independently from state agencies. They address local requirements by offering diverse services that may differ among districts, including community health nursing, home health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs, often through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. Residents should contact their local District Health Department for current service information. The Public Health Preparedness office collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, other public health districts, healthcare providers, and emergency responders to develop a unified statewide strategy for responding to bioterrorism and public health emergencies. Environmental Health programs focus on the interaction between human health and the physical environment, covering areas such as daycare, epidemiology, food establishments, and public pools. Land Development Programs address mortgage surveys, public water systems, subdivision reviews, and subsurface sewage evaluations. The Reproductive Health services include family planning, education, counseling, pregnancy testing, and referrals, with various birth control methods available. Immunization services are provided at local health departments, with low-cost or free routine childhood vaccinations available. The Immunization Registry helps track vaccination records. The WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) Program offers monthly healthy food vouchers, health screenings, nutrition classes, and individual counseling for eligible women and children. The Women’s Health Check program provides free breast and cervical cancer screenings for uninsured women meeting specific criteria. For general information, locations, and appointments, please call.
