About this resource
CONTACT FOR MEDICAL RESERVE CORPS: 208-321-2215, and for the Swine Flu Hotline in Region 4: 208-321-2222. Idaho comprises seven health districts that work closely with the Department of Health and Welfare as well as various state and local organizations. Each district has its own board of health appointed by county commissioners and operates independently from state agencies. The services provided can differ by district and include community health nursing, home health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs, many of which are contracted through the Department of Health and Welfare. To get the most current information about available services in your area, reach out to your local District Health Department. The Public Health Preparedness office collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and other public health districts, healthcare providers, and emergency responders to create a unified statewide strategy for addressing bioterrorism and public health emergencies. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH: This segment deals with the intersection of human health and the physical environment, covering programs such as Day Care, Epidemiology (Animal Bites, Food and Water Borne Illness), Food Establishments (Permits, Plan Reviews, Inspections), and Public Pools. LAND DEVELOPMENT programs include Mortgage Surveys, Public Water Systems, Subdivision Reviews, and Subsurface Sewage evaluations. REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH (Family Planning): Offers services including education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams (including cancer and sexually transmitted disease screenings), and referrals. Various birth control methods are available, and educational resources can be provided for community events. Temporary Medicaid card applications for prenatal care are also accessible. IMMUNIZATIONS: Local health departments administer routine childhood vaccinations through clinics, often at little to no cost for parents unable to pay. Appointments can be scheduled by calling the local health department, which will bill insurance. The Immunization Registry is a free, confidential service that tracks immunization records for families and their doctors. WIC (WOMEN, INFANTS AND CHILDREN) PROGRAM: This program provides monthly healthy food vouchers, health screenings, nutrition classes, community program information, and individual counseling with registered dietitians. WIC serves pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, infants, and children under five. WOMEN'S HEALTH CHECK is a federally funded initiative offering free breast and cervical cancer screenings to eligible women without insurance that covers these tests. Eligibility criteria include income guidelines and age restrictions. Languages available include English, with interpreters accessible. Intake Procedure: For general inquiries, locations, and appointments, call. Immunizations and WIC services are available on the first Thursday of each month; appointments are required.
