About this resource

The Medical Reserve Corps can be reached at 208-321-2215, and the Swine Flu Hotline for Region 4 is available at 208-321-2222. Idaho consists of seven health districts that work closely with the Department of Health and Welfare and various state and local organizations. Each district has a health board appointed by county commissioners and operates independently of state agencies. They cater to local demands by offering diverse services that differ by district, including community health nursing, home health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs, many of which are contracted through the Department of Health and Welfare. For updated information about local services, residents should contact their nearest District Health Department. The Public Health Preparedness office collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and other health districts, healthcare providers, and emergency responders to develop a comprehensive statewide strategy for responding to bioterrorism and other public health crises. Environmental Health programs address the intersection of human health with the physical environment and local ecosystems, covering areas such as daycare, epidemiology (animal bites, food and waterborne illnesses), food establishment permits, inspections, and public pool regulations. Land Development Programs include mortgage surveys, public water system assessments, subdivision reviews, and subsurface sewage evaluations. Reproductive Health services encompass family planning, education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams (including cancer and STD screenings), and referrals, with various birth control options available. Educational resources and speakers for community events can be requested. Temporary Medicaid cards for prenatal care can also be applied for. Immunizations are provided by local health departments, offering routine childhood vaccinations at low or no cost for families in need. The Immunization Registry is a free, confidential service that tracks immunization records. The WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) Program supplies healthy foods, health screenings, nutrition classes, and individual counseling for eligible pregnant women, new mothers, infants, and children under five. Lastly, the Women's Health Check program offers free breast and cervical cancer screenings for uninsured women who meet specific income and age criteria. Languages available include English, with interpreters accessible as needed. For general inquiries, locations, and appointment scheduling, please call.
