Idaho comprises seven health districts that work closely with the Department of Health and Welfare and other local and state entities. Each district has a board of health appointed by county commissioners and operates independently from state agencies. They cater to local needs by offering a diverse range of services, which can differ from one district to another. These services include community and home health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs, many of which are provided through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare.
