Adult Protective Services programs focus on safeguarding vulnerable adults who are, or may be, victims of abuse, neglect, self-neglect, or exploitation. This is achieved by receiving reports of such incidents, investigating claims, and conducting assessments. Additionally, they provide referrals and arrange for emergency or supportive services aimed at minimizing or eliminating risks. For those facing health challenges that hinder their ability to maintain a safe and clean living environment, assistance is available for tasks like housekeeping (laundry, vacuuming, dusting, dishwashing), meal planning and preparation, essential shopping and errands, banking and bill payment, and medication management, with some restrictions on bathing and hair washing. Local Area Agency on Aging (AAA) staff can evaluate individual needs to determine eligibility for assistance or offer a list of providers for those who can afford the services. Transportation services are also available to help seniors reach medical appointments, senior centers, employment, shopping, adult day care, and social service agencies.
