About this resource
The Welfare Fraud Investigation Unit is responsible for investigating clients and non-Medicaid providers who obtain public assistance funds as either clients or service providers. These investigations usually begin with a complaint from the public or a program employee and may result in identifying overpayments, intentional violations of the program, or legal action. To report suspected fraud, individuals can utilize several methods: Online reporting is available on the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare's website under the "Report Fraud" section. For phone reports, the Public Assistance Fraud Hotline can be reached at 866-935-7515, with calls answered by the 2-1-1 Idaho CareLine from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Mountain Time), and after hours calls go to voicemail. Additionally, reports or inquiries can be emailed to Questions@dhw.idaho.gov.
