Head Start (Idaho Falls) - East Center

Head Start is a national preschool initiative aimed at children from families that qualify based on income. Local nonprofit organizations operate Head Start centers across the country. The program is open to children aged 3 to 5 years, specifically targeting families whose income falls below poverty levels. Children must be 3 years old by September 1 to apply. The program also accommodates children with special needs or those considered at high risk, and a limited number of over-income children with special needs may be accepted. Services provided are free and include assistance with medical, dental, educational, and social service needs. Families must provide proof of income, the child's birth date, and immunization records. Head Start offers various supportive services such as social services, parent involvement, nutrition, mental health, health education, and assistance for disabilities, as well as medical and dental transportation vouchers. The program aims to enhance and support the lives of children, families, staff, and the community by helping families navigate life's challenges through quality education and family-oriented services. The program runs for four days a week, lasting 3.5 hours each day, during which two meals are provided. Parent participation is encouraged, although transportation is not available.
