About this resource

The Medical Reserve Corps can be reached at 208-415-5180, and the Swine Flu Hotline is available at 208-415-5299. Idaho comprises seven health districts that work closely with the Department of Health and Welfare and other state and local organizations. Each district has its own board of health appointed by county commissioners and operates independently from state agencies. They cater to local demands by offering diverse services that can differ among districts, including community health nursing, home health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs. Many of these services are delivered through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. For the latest information about community services, contact the nearest District Health Department. The Public Health Preparedness and Communication Systems office collaborates with various stakeholders to develop a unified statewide strategy for responding to bioterrorism and public health emergencies. Environmental Health programs address the interactions between human health and the physical environment, covering areas such as daycare, epidemiology, food establishments, indoor air quality, lead health, methamphetamine labs, public pools, and solid waste management. Land Development programs focus on critical materials regulation, mortgage surveys, non-domestic wastewater, public water systems, aquifer protection, and sewage evaluations. Family Planning services include education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams, and referrals, with various birth control methods available. Local health departments provide routine childhood vaccinations at low or no cost, with overseas immunizations available by appointment. Adult vaccines may also be offered. The Immunization Registry helps track vaccination status. The WIC program supports women, infants, and children by providing healthy foods, health screenings, nutrition education, and referrals. The Women’s Health Check program offers free breast and cervical cancer screenings to eligible women without insurance coverage for these tests.
