Public mental health services are primarily divided into two key areas: Community Crisis Response and assistance for adults dealing with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) or children facing serious emotional disturbances. COMMUNITY CRISIS RESPONSE SERVICES serve as the initial intervention for adults undergoing a mental health crisis, which may include psychiatric symptoms like self-harm or the risk of harming others. Each welfare region in Idaho features a community health center along with one or more satellite offices that offer 24-hour crisis response services, including hotlines, emergency psychiatric evaluations, treatment referrals, and consultations with law enforcement, hospitals, and other social services as needed. SEVERE AND PERSISTENT MENTAL ILLNESS services are designed for individuals aged 18 and older who are diagnosed with severe mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, schizo-affective disorder, major affective disorder, delusional disorder, or borderline personality disorder. The severity of these conditions must significantly impact the individual's ability to perform roles or cope in at least two areas of functioning, whether continuously or intermittently. SPMI services encompass screening and referral, assertive community treatment, crisis intervention, case management, psychiatric and medical services, short-term outpatient therapy, individual and group psychosocial rehabilitation, consultation and education, as well as community supportive employment. The Mental Health Program is managed by the Division of Behavioral Health, and services are available in English with interpreter access. Intake Procedure: Call to be screened for eligibility.
