About this resource

The Medical Reserve Corps can be reached at 208-239-5208, while the Swine Flu Hotline for Region 6 is available at 208-234-5888. Idaho comprises seven health districts that work closely with the Department of Health and Welfare, as well as various state and local organizations. Each district features a health board appointed by county commissioners and operates independently from state agencies. They address local requirements by offering diverse services, which may differ among districts, including community health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs, often through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. For the latest service information in your area, contact your nearest District Health Department. The Public Health Preparedness and Communication Systems office collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and other public health districts to develop a comprehensive statewide strategy for responding to bioterrorism and public health emergencies. Environmental Health programs tackle issues at the intersection of human health and the environment, covering areas such as daycare, epidemiology, food establishment inspections, indoor air quality, lead health, meth labs, public pools, and solid waste management. Land Development programs address critical materials regulation, mortgage surveys, non-domestic wastewater, public water systems, aquifer protection, and sewage evaluations. Family Planning services include education, counseling, pregnancy testing, and various birth control methods, with resources available for community presentations. Local health departments offer routine childhood vaccinations at low or no cost, with overseas immunizations available by appointment. Adult vaccines may also be provided. The Immunization Registry helps track vaccination status for individuals and their families. The WIC program offers nutritious foods, health screenings, nutrition classes, and support for pregnant and breastfeeding women, infants, and young children. The Women's Health Check program provides free cancer screenings for eligible women without insurance or those who meet specific income criteria.
