About this resource
The Medical Reserve Corps can be reached at 208-239-5208, and for swine flu inquiries in Region 6, call 208-234-5888. Idaho's seven health districts operate in close partnership with the Department of Health and Welfare and various state and local organizations. Each district has a health board appointed by county commissioners and functions independently from state agencies. They cater to local requirements by offering a diverse range of services, which can differ across districts, including community health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs, often facilitated through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. For updated information on services available in your area, reach out to your nearest District Health Department. The Public Health Preparedness and Communication Systems office collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, other public health districts, healthcare providers, and emergency responders to develop a unified statewide strategy for addressing bioterrorism threats and public health crises. Environmental Health initiatives address the intersection of human health with the physical environment and ecosystems, covering areas such as Day Care, Epidemiology (including animal bites and food/waterborne illnesses), food establishment permits and inspections, indoor air quality (like radon), lead health programs, methamphetamine lab concerns, public pools, and solid waste management. Land Development programs encompass critical materials regulation, mortgage surveys, non-domestic wastewater management, public water system oversight, Rathdrum Aquifer protection, shallow injection well inventory, subdivision reviews, and subsurface sewage evaluations and permits. The Family Planning services include education, counseling, pregnancy tests, comprehensive physical exams (including cancer and STD screenings), and referrals, with various birth control methods available. Community presentations can be arranged upon request. Local health departments administer routine childhood vaccinations, often at low or no cost, with overseas immunizations available by appointment. Adult vaccines such as Td boosters, hepatitis A and B, pneumonia, and influenza may also be provided. The Immunization Registry is a free, confidential service that keeps track of immunizations for individuals and their healthcare providers, ensuring timely vaccinations. The WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) Program offers supplemental nutrition assistance, including healthy food vouchers, health screenings, nutrition classes, and referrals, serving pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, infants, and children under five. The Women's Health Check program, funded federally, provides free breast and cervical cancer screenings for eligible women without insurance coverage for these tests, meeting specific income criteria. Languages offered include English, with interpreters available. For general inquiries, locations, and appointment scheduling, please call.
