Lewis-Clark Early Childhood Program

Head Start is a comprehensive preschool initiative designed for children from families that meet income eligibility criteria. Local nonprofit organizations operate Head Start centers nationwide, accepting applications for children aged 3 and 4. Eligible families are those whose income falls below the poverty level, and children must be 3 years old by September 1. The program also accommodates children with special needs or those considered high risk, with a limited number of spots available for over-income children with special needs. Services provided include support for medical, dental, educational, and social needs, all at no cost. Families must provide proof of income, the child's birth date, and immunization records. Head Start offers various supportive services, including social services, parent involvement, nutrition, mental health, health education, and assistance for disabilities. The program aims to enrich the lives of children, families, staff, and the community, helping families navigate challenges through quality education and focused services. Head Start serves low-income children aged 3-4, operates a four-day week, and provides one snack and one lunch daily, with parental volunteer opportunities available.
