For inquiries, you can reach the Medical Reserve Corps at 208-799-3100 or the Public Health Information Line for Region 2 at 208-748-0400 or 1-866-736-6632. Idaho's seven health districts collaborate closely with the Department of Health and Welfare, as well as various local and state agencies. Each district has a health board appointed by county commissioners and operates independently from state agencies. They cater to local requirements by offering a variety of services that may differ across districts, including community health nursing, home health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs, many of which are provided through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. For the most current information about available services in your area, you should contact your nearest District Health Department. The Public Health Preparedness and Communication Systems office (Bioterrorism Planning) collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, other health districts, healthcare providers, and emergency responders to create a unified statewide strategy for preparing for and responding to bioterrorism threats and public health crises. Environmental Health programs address the intersection of human health with the physical environment and ecosystems, covering aspects such as Day Care Inspections, Epidemiology (Animal Bites, Food and Waterborne Illness), Food Establishments (Permits, Plan Reviews, Inspections), Indoor Air Quality (Radon), Lead Health Program, Methamphetamine Labs, Public Pools, and Solid Waste. Land Development programs include regulations on Critical Materials, Mortgage Surveys, Non-Domestic Waste Water, Public Water Systems, Rathdrum Aquifer Protection, Shallow Injection Well Inventory, Subdivision Review, and Subsurface Sewage evaluations. Family Planning services encompass education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams (including cancer and STD screenings), and referrals, with various birth control methods available. Educational resources and speakers can be provided for community events upon request. Local health departments administer routine childhood vaccinations through clinics at health departments or special off-site events, often at low or no cost for families in need. Overseas immunizations are available by appointment, and travelers should check with local health departments for required vaccines. Adult vaccines like Td boosters, hepatitis B, hepatitis A, pneumonia, and influenza may also be offered. The Immunization Registry is a free, confidential service that tracks immunizations for individuals and their healthcare providers. The WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) Program provides monthly healthy food vouchers, health screenings, nutrition education, and support for breastfeeding, serving pregnant women, new mothers, infants, and children under five. The Women's Health Check program offers free breast and cervical cancer screenings to eligible women who lack insurance coverage for these services, based on specific age and income criteria. Languages available include English, with interpreters accessible. For general information, including locations and appointments, please call.
