Head Start (Riggins) Lewis-Clark Early Childhood Program

Head Start is a nationwide preschool initiative designed for children from families that meet income eligibility criteria. Local nonprofit organizations manage Head Start centers across the country. The program accepts applications for children aged 0 to 5 years, specifically targeting families whose income falls below poverty levels, as well as children with special needs or those considered at high risk. A limited number of over-income children with special needs may also be admitted. The services offered are complimentary and include assistance with medical, dental, educational, and social service needs. Required documentation includes proof of income, the child's birthdate, and immunization records. Head Start provides various supportive services, including social services, parent involvement, nutrition, mental health, health, education, disabilities, dental care, and transportation. The program aims to enhance the lives of children, families, staff, and the community by providing quality education and family-centered services. Head Start accommodates children from low-income families, ages 0-5 years, with a four-day weekly program totaling 12 hours, during which two meals are provided each day.
