Family Promise Of North Idaho

Family Promise of North Idaho (FPNI) aims to help homeless families regain self-sufficiency. Families typically stay in affiliate programs for an average of 59 days, with 80% successfully becoming self-sufficient. Prior to joining the program, families undergo an interview process, during which it is verified, in collaboration with local social services and law enforcement, that there is no history of violence, severe mental illness, or current substance abuse. For FPNI, a family consists of a parent or guardian along with at least one child under 18. The organization offers temporary shelter, meals, case management, job search help, individual and family counseling, transportation, financial guidance, and assistance in finding transitional or permanent housing. FPNI collaborates with local agencies to enhance service effectiveness. A network of churches in Kootenai County provides evening and overnight shelter and meals for up to five families (or 14 individuals) from 5:30 PM to 7:00 AM, with volunteers preparing and serving food and hosting overnight stays. During the day, family members engage in school, work, job or housing interviews, counseling, or utilize the Day Center, which offers phones, internet access, and community resources. Services are primarily in English, with translators available as needed. The intake process begins with a phone call, followed by an in-person interview by appointment.
