The Public Health Preparedness and Communication Systems office (Bioterrorism Planning) collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, other public health districts, healthcare providers, and emergency responders to create a unified statewide strategy for preparing for and responding to bioterrorism threats and other public health crises. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH: This includes programs addressing the intersection of human health with the physical environment and ecosystems. **Environmental Health Programs cover: Day Care Inspections; Epidemiology (Animal Bites, Food and Water Borne Illness); Food Establishments (Permits, Plan Reviews, Inspections); Indoor Air Quality (Radon); Lead Health Program; Methamphetamine Labs; Public Pools; Solid Waste.** Land Development programs encompass: Critical Materials Regulation; Mortgage Surveys; Non-Domestic Waste Water; Public Water Systems; Rathdrum Aquifer Protection; Shallow Injection Well Inventory; Subdivision Review; Subsurface Sewage (Site Evaluations, Permits, Inspections). FAMILY PLANNING: Offers Family Planning services that include education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams (including cancer screenings, STD screenings, and HIV testing), and referrals. A variety of birth control methods are available. Educational resources and speakers can be provided for community presentations upon request. IMMUNIZATIONS: Local health departments administer routine childhood vaccinations through clinics at the health department and occasionally at special off-site events. These vaccinations are often low-cost or free for parents who cannot pay. Overseas immunizations are available by appointment. Contact your local health department for specific vaccine requirements for travel destinations. Adult vaccines such as Td boosters, hepatitis B, hepatitis A, pneumonia, and influenza may also be offered. The Immunization Registry is a free, voluntary, and confidential service that keeps track of immunizations for you and your family, ensuring you receive only the necessary vaccines when needed. WIC (WOMEN, INFANTS AND CHILDREN) PROGRAM: WIC is a supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, providing: Healthy foods monthly that can be bought with WIC vouchers, health screenings, nutrition education classes, community program information, referrals to healthcare providers, individual counseling with registered dietitians, breastfeeding support, and educational materials. WIC serves pregnant women, breastfeeding women (up to one year postpartum), infants up to one year old, and children under five. WOMEN'S HEALTH CHECK contractor: This federally funded initiative provides free breast and cervical cancer screenings for eligible women. To qualify for Women's Health Check, women must lack insurance that covers mammograms or pap tests, meet income criteria, and fall into one of several age categories or have specific symptoms.
