Services include community and home health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs, often provided through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. The Public Health Preparedness and Communication Systems office collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, other public health districts, healthcare providers, and emergency responders to develop a comprehensive statewide strategy for addressing bioterrorism and public health emergencies. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH programs address the intersection of human health with the physical environment and ecosystems, covering areas such as Day Care Inspections, Epidemiology (Animal Bites, Food and Waterborne Illness), Food Establishments (Permits, Plan Reviews, Inspections), Indoor Air Quality (Radon), Lead Health Program, Methamphetamine Labs, Public Pools, and Solid Waste management. Land Development initiatives include Critical Materials Regulation, Mortgage Surveys, Non-Domestic Waste Water, Public Water Systems, Rathdrum Aquifer Protection, Shallow Injection Well Inventory, Subdivision Review, and Subsurface Sewage evaluations. FAMILY PLANNING services offer education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams (including cancer and STD screenings), and referrals, with a range of birth control methods available. IMMUNIZATIONS are provided through local health departments, offering routine childhood vaccinations at health department clinics or special off-site locations, often at low or no cost. Overseas immunizations are available by appointment, and travelers should contact the local health department for vaccine requirements. Adult vaccines, including Td boosters, hepatitis B, hepatitis A, pneumonia, and influenza, may also be offered. The Immunization Registry is a free, voluntary service that keeps track of immunizations for individuals and their healthcare providers. The WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) Program provides monthly healthy food vouchers, health screenings, nutrition classes, community program information, individual counseling with registered dietitians, and breastfeeding support. WIC serves pregnant women, breastfeeding women (up to one year postpartum), infants under one year, and children under five. The Women's Health Check program offers free breast and cervical cancer screenings for eligible women without insurance covering these tests, based on income and age criteria.
