ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH: This includes programs that address the intersection of human health and the physical environment, covering areas such as Day Care, Epidemiology (Animal Bites, Food and Water Borne Illness), Food Establishments (Permits, Plan Reviews, Inspections), Indoor Air Quality (Radon), Lead Health Program, Methamphetamine Labs, Public Pools, and Solid Waste. Land Development initiatives encompass Critical Materials Regulation, Mortgage Surveys, Non-Domestic Waste Water, Public Water Systems, Rathdrum Aquifer Protection, Shallow Injection Well Inventory, Subdivision Review, and Subsurface Sewage (Site Evaluations, Permits, Inspections). FAMILY PLANNING: This service includes education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams (including cancer and sexually transmitted disease screenings), and referrals, with a variety of birth control methods available. IMMUNIZATIONS: Local health departments offer routine childhood vaccinations through clinics at the health department or special off-site locations, often at low or no cost for parents unable to pay. Overseas immunizations are available by appointment, and travelers should contact their local health department for necessary vaccines. Adult vaccines, including Td boosters, hepatitis B, hepatitis A, pneumonia, and influenza, may also be provided.
