Public mental health services are primarily concentrated on two key areas: Community Crisis Response and assistance for Adults with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) or children dealing with significant emotional disturbances. COMMUNITY CRISIS RESPONSE SERVICES serve as the initial intervention for adults undergoing a mental health crisis, which may include psychiatric symptoms like self-harm or harm to others. Each Welfare region in Idaho has a community health center along with one or more satellite offices that offer 24/7 crisis response services, including hotlines, emergency psychiatric evaluations, treatment referrals, and consultations with law enforcement, local hospitals, and other social services as needed. SEVERE AND PERSISTENT MENTAL ILLNESS services are aimed at individuals aged 18 and older who experience the most severe and enduring forms of mental illness. Eligible individuals must have a diagnosis of schizophrenia, schizo-affective disorder, major affective disorder, delusional disorder, or borderline personality disorder, with the severity of their condition causing significant disruptions in their ability to function in at least two areas of life, either consistently or intermittently. SPMI services encompass screening and referral, assertive community treatment, crisis intervention, case management, psychiatric and medical services, short-term outpatient therapy, individual and group psychosocial rehabilitation, consultation and education, and community supportive employment. The Mental Health Program is overseen by the Division of Behavior Health. Services are available in English, with interpreters accessible as needed.
