Public mental health services are primarily divided into two key areas: Community Crisis Response and Services for Adults with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) or children with significant emotional disturbances. COMMUNITY CRISIS RESPONSE SERVICES provide immediate intervention for adults undergoing a mental health crisis, which may include psychiatric symptoms like self-harm or threats to others. Each Welfare region in Idaho is equipped with a community health center and additional satellite offices that offer 24-hour crisis response services, including hotlines, emergency psychiatric evaluations, treatment referrals, and consultations with law enforcement, local hospitals, and other social service agencies as needed. SEVERE AND PERSISTENT MENTAL ILLNESS services are aimed at individuals aged 18 and older who are affected by severe and persistent mental health conditions. Eligible individuals must have a diagnosis such as schizophrenia, schizo-affective disorder, major affective disorder, delusional disorder, or borderline personality disorder, which significantly disrupts their ability to function in at least two areas of life, either consistently or intermittently. SPMI services encompass screening and referral, assertive community treatment, crisis intervention, case management, psychiatric and medical services, short-term outpatient therapy, individual and group psychosocial rehabilitation, as well as consultation and education, and community supportive employment. The Mental Health Program is managed by the Division of Behavioral Health. Services are available in English, with interpreters accessible upon request.
