About this resource

The Medical Reserve Corps can be contacted at 208-455-5324, but it's advised that individuals check the website www.volunteeridaho.com before calling. Idaho's seven health districts collaborate closely with the Department of Health and Welfare and various state and local agencies. Each district operates independently, responding to local needs with a diverse range of services that differ from one district to another. These services include community health nursing, home health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs, many of which are provided through contracts with the Department of Health and Welfare. For the most current information about available services in your area, reach out to your local Health District. The Public Health Preparedness and Communication Systems office works alongside the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and other public health districts to create a unified statewide strategy for addressing bioterrorism threats and other public health crises. Environmental Health programs focus on the intersection of human health with the physical environment and local ecosystems, covering areas such as daycare, epidemiology, food establishments, lead health, methamphetamine labs, public pools, and solid waste management. Land Development programs encompass critical materials regulation, mortgage surveys, non-domestic wastewater management, public water systems, Rathdrum aquifer protection, shallow injection well inventories, subdivision reviews, and subsurface sewage evaluations. Family Planning services include education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams, and referrals, offering various birth control methods. Immunization services provide routine childhood vaccinations at health district clinics, with low or no costs for those unable to pay, as well as overseas immunizations by appointment. Adult vaccines may also be available. The Immunization Registry is a free, confidential service that helps track immunizations for individuals and their families. The WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) Program offers monthly healthy food vouchers, health screenings, nutrition classes, referrals, and individual counseling for pregnant women, breastfeeding women, infants, and children under five, with services available in English and through interpreters. For general inquiries, locations, and appointment scheduling, call the relevant office.
