Idaho's seven health districts collaborate closely with the Department of Health and Welfare and various state and local agencies. Each district operates independently, appointed by county commissioners, and tailors its services to meet local needs, which can differ across districts. Services include community health nursing, home health nursing, environmental health, dental hygiene, and nutrition programs, many of which are contracted through the Department of Health and Welfare. For the most current information on available services in your area, reach out to your local Health District office. The Public Health Preparedness and Communication Systems office collaborates with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and other entities to create a unified statewide strategy for addressing bioterrorism threats and public health crises. Environmental Health programs address the intersection of human health with the physical environment, covering areas such as daycare, epidemiology, food establishments, lead health, methamphetamine labs, public pools, and solid waste management. Family Planning services encompass education, counseling, pregnancy testing, comprehensive physical exams, and referrals, offering various birth control methods. Immunizations are provided for children at health district clinics, often at little or no cost, and adult vaccines may also be available. The Immunization Registry is a free, confidential service that tracks immunizations for individuals and families. The WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) Program offers monthly healthy food vouchers, health screenings, nutrition classes, referrals, and support for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, infants, and children under five. Satellite offices are located in Cambridge, Council, and New Meadows, with services available in English and interpreters accessible. For general information, locations, and appointments, please call.
