About this resource

This initiative provides a tax-advantaged savings and investment account for individuals with disabilities who meet eligibility criteria, allowing their funds to grow and be utilized tax-free for approved disability-related expenses. The ABLE account also safeguards eligibility for public benefits by allowing the initial $100,000 in the account to be disregarded from the SSI resource limit. Available languages include English and Spanish.

Who can use this

To qualify, the account owner must be an eligible individual with a disability that began before the age of 46, and must either receive SSI or SSDI, meet SSA's disability criteria, or be able to self-certify while maintaining a doctor's diagnosis on file. Required information includes full legal name, physical address (no P.O. Boxes), date of birth, social security number, phone number, email address, and bank routing and account number for electronic transfers or recurring contributions.
