University Of Nevada Reno Cooperative Extension-Elko County Office

The program consists of two 9-week sessions each year in Elko, Nevada, scheduled for the fall and spring. Details about the location will be provided upon registration. Eligible participants include parents who have experienced domestic violence and their children aged 0-18, as well as caregivers of children who have been exposed to domestic violence (such as foster parents) and parents who faced domestic violence during their childhood. Workshops involve adults, children, youth, and teens working in breakout groups led by facilitators skilled in child and family development. Participants engage in age-appropriate activities and reconvene for family-oriented activities to practice the skills acquired in their groups. Topics covered in the program include communication, emotional awareness, child development, parenting approaches, positive guidance, problem-solving, friendship skills, stress management, personal interests, teen dating violence prevention, and fostering healthy relationships.
