About this resource
Emergency Assistance is a type of Temporary Assistance designed to address urgent needs or crises, such as homelessness, lack of food, eviction threats, insufficient heating fuel during winter, utility disconnections, and instances of domestic violence. For individuals and families experiencing homelessness during after-hours (from 4:00 pm to 8:00 am), on holidays, or during emergency closures, they should call 607-778-3885. If someone identifies as homeless and has no immediate place to stay, they should contact 911. If they cannot access a shelter, the 911 Operator will reach out to the on-call worker from the Department of Social Services (DSS), who may arrange for payment until the next business day. DSS staff should refer to the Procedure for Code Blue Calls for further guidance.
Intake can be done in person at the Broome County DSS office or online through myBenefits.ny.gov.
There are no fees associated with this assistance.
